The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has introduced a refresher requirement for those applying to renew their Security Officers licence – anyone wishing to renew their licence from 1st April 2025 must have achieved this qualification.

The Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Refresher) is suitable for learners to:

• develop up-to-date knowledge and skills required to continue to work effectively and safely as a security officer
• continue to work as a licensed security officer
• achieve a licence to practise
• achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification
• develop own personal growth and engagement in learning.

Unit 1: Principles of working as a security officer in the private security industry (Refresher)

• Know how to conduct effective search procedures.
• Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe.
• Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of threat.
